The top-tier competition in Indonesia runs from August 9, 2024, to May 25, 2025. The second matchday of Liga 1 took place on Friday (23/08/2024) evening WIB, featuring a clash between Persebaya Surabaya and Barito Putera. This intense match ended dramatically with Persebaya winning 2-1 thanks to a late goal by Mohammed Rashid. As a result, Persebaya now sits at the top of the Liga 1 2024/2025 standings with seven points from three matches. Meanwhile, Barito is in 10th place with only three points. On Saturday (24/08/2024), two games are scheduled: Madura United vs Persita in the afternoon and Persija vs Persis in the evening.

Compared to last season, Persija Jakarta hasn't made many changes to their squad. The team has retained several key players, including Hanif Sjahbandi and Syahrian Abimanyu, who were rumored to be moving but decided to stay. Persebaya Surabaya will host PSS Sleman in the first week of BRI Liga 1 2024/2025 at Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium on Sunday, August 11, 2024. The game will kick off at 19:00 WIB, broadcast live on Indosiar and Vidio. Persebaya won 2-0 against Persik Kediri in their last friendly match. Although the Bajul Ijo won, their performance was not yet optimal. The collaboration of Francisco Rivera, Bruno Moreira, and Flavio Silva is still not quite cohesive. Meanwhile, PSS Sleman lost 1-2 to Persita Tangerang in their last friendly match. Lachman, a 34-year-old central defender, played for Perth Glory in the 2023/2024 season, featuring in 23 matches. Lachman has experience with Dutch clubs such as FC Groningen, PEC Zwolle, FC Twente, Cambuur, and Willem II. PSBS Biak has made a new foreign signing as well, bringing in Jaimerson Xavier, who played for Persis Solo in the previous season.
