The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests on bare floors and are especially adept in removing hair from dogs. However, they have a few flaws that keep them from being our top choice. One of the Q5's shortcomings is that its navigation system doesn't have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's also prone to get stuck on shoes and socks and couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people well during our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that would let it see the corners of the room.

Still, it's very good to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on an Roomba from iRobot, and you have a mostly bare-floor home or office. Additionally, it's quiet and can work while you're at work, or school. The only thing it's missing that you can't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with self-emptying docks, however. If you're required to, the mopping pad can be changed for a wet one in minutes.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that can sweep floors. Its intelligent cleaning maps and fluid navigation make it simple to clean and effective in tackling larger particles such as pet hair. It also has an impressive suction system and a self-emptying bin. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, but it falls behind some competitors in terms of deep cleaning.

It can also clean the floor even after it vacuums. This is something we haven't seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

With an elegant, circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba than the competition's compact models This robot vacuum and mop combo is one of the most attractive looking models in our evaluations. The newest model from iRobot is among the most intelligent, with advanced features including enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot vacuum cleaner reviews that can wash its own mop pads).

It's also the only robotic vacuum or mop that scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our testing. This is thanks to a mix of high-tech sensors, including a structured lighting system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mop mops.

As with other iRobot models like the X40 is user-friendly, with a simple mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only issue is that it's an eerily noisy device that could be problematic if you run it in the morning prior to work or in the evening as you attempt to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive, but not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally capable and better looking. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that is very efficient, but it's going to cost you more and produce more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the best robot vacuum and mop. It comes with a variety of features that are advanced and will help you forget your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine like Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically empty the vacuum's bin and fills up the water tank, and washes and dries the mop pads.

The smart robot employs an array of LIDAR and structured light to create floor plans and identify obstacles, navigating more intelligently than its top rivals. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards but this wasn't completely foolproof in our tests, and could be confused with power cords or obstructions.

The automatic vacuum and mop cleaner comes with a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vacuum works and also alters the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house depending on the degree of dirt they tend to be.

If you have a bigger home, you should consider choosing a model that has spot or zone cleaning mode. This allows you to instruct the robot on which part of your house needs to be cleaned by using the app or voice command. If you have lots of furniture, a stair-mode is also useful. Additionally a recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to continue where it left off is great for busy families.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more sophisticated than the price suggests. It vacuums well and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad that has a reciprocating motion that cleans better than most of the other robot mop cleaners we've tested. It's also self-sufficient, with a full-featured application and an auto-emptying washable base.

The well-designed iRobot application guides you through an initial mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules, or to set up the spot-cleaning. You can also use it to prioritize the most soiled areas for greater efficiency. The app offers a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, meaning it can get to corners and underneath furniture more easily. It also has a strong 8000 Pascal suction and combs with intelligent technology for pet hair. And you can create a spot-clean that scours a specific area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek, cheaper alternative to iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras appear like cute eyes. It is great at vacuuming, but it is more likely to get caught on low thresholds. It is also louder than other top robot vacuums that we have tested. It also comes with an app that's less intuitive and has a tiny base station that doesn't double as a bin for emptying.
